A new investigational PET radiotracer, iodine 124 evuzamitide, has shown promise for improving the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis, a condition that's often difficult to detect. Results from the multicenter REVEAL study, presented at the 2026 European Society of Cardiology Congress, highlighted the tracer's capability to bind with amyloid deposits in the heart, providing direct imaging assessments. The study, involving 170 adults across 18 U.S. centers, demonstrated a sensitivity of 94% and specificity of 86% for cardiac amyloidosis diagnosis, surpassing these numbers for its two major forms: transthyretin and light-chain amyloidosis. The safety profile appears favorable, with minimal adverse events reported. Iodine 124 evuzamitide has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation and orphan drug status, and Bayer plans to discuss further regulatory submissions soon.
